Like many Russian vintage lenses, the Helios 40 is "heavily inspired" by the Carl Zeiss designs, and this 85mm f1.5 takes its inspiration from the Zeiss Biotar 75mm f1.5. Just like the Biotar, the Helios 40 is very much in demand and prices keep creeping up.
The lens is known for its incredible swirly bokeh and unique character, especially against busy backgrounds (especially trees, foliage or sources of light) the lens creates stunning swirly bokeh like no other. Imagine a Helios 44-2 (58mm f2) on steroids.
This particular copy has a coating deffect in the middle, which may show particularly in video. Pls come and test it if you are interested.
