This 70+ year old lens has become a sort of legend over the years, due to its unique character. In addition to being extremely fast (even today !), it can create incredible images. In common environments this 75mm will capture beautiful portraits with softly-rendered details, but if you use it against busy backgrounds (especially trees, foliage or sources of light) the lens creates stunning swirly bokeh like no other. This dual character and a very limited supply make this lens highly collectible and expensive, but well worth the price. Additionally, it uses a preset-aperture system which allows you to change apertures without clicks, a feature that some videographers appreciate. The Russians copied the Zeiss design to produce an 85mm f1.5 (Helios 40) but is is a much heavier and bulkier lens which is as well less practical to use.
