Fusion of full frame large maximum aperture with nostalgic design
Placing the spotlight back on this focal length traditionally used for large maximum aperture standard lens, this lens offers the character of a classic lens with its double gauss optical configuration combined with the modern performance offered by the latest optical technology. A unique barrel design is employed to evoke the era when it was something quite special to own a camera. This lens is highly regarded and has become a classic over the years.
Lens with diverse expressive power
With this lens you can enjoy utilizing the characteristics of soft drawing at maximum aperture and increasingly sharp imaging as the aperture is stopped down. On an APS-C format camera, this lens can also be used as a portrait lens equivalent to 85mm.
Design that combines nostalgia and functionality
The focus and aperture rings are made entirely of metal, and the large machined finger indents and precisely machined knurling are not only nostalgic and beautiful but also provide functionality that improves the feel of manual focusing.
Manual focus for reliable focusing
Employs a very precisely machined and adjusted all metal helicoid unit lubricated with high quality grease to realize smooth focusing operation with just the right amount of torque. This enables very precise focusing.
Choice of barrel design variations
As homage to the interchangeable lenses for single-lens reflex cameras of the Showa 40s period (1965 to 1974), two variations are available: a silver rim variation and a black rim variation (affectionately nicknamed “sakijiro” (white front) and “sakiguro” (black front) respectively by Japanese collectors).
Usable on a range of bodies
The lens mount is interchangeable with Nikon Ai-S with built-in CPU, and in addition to a built-in CPU the lens also has an Ai coupler. This means the lens can be used on a wide range of camera bodies from the old film cameras of yesteryear through to the latest digital single-lens reflex cameras.
