Ever-reliable classic with excellent sharpness and smooth bokeh
Ultra-high refractive index glass and an element with two aspherical surfaces are used in a modified double Gauss optical configuration, which is an established configuration in lens design, to give this lens excellent sharpness from maximum aperture and smooth bokeh. The lens features an extra-long focus helical that enables a minimum focusing distance of 25cm. Images can be captured at a maximum reproduction ratio of 1:4 without having to use a close-up lens.

Design that combines nostalgia and functionality
The focus and aperture rings are made entirely of metal, and the large machined finger indents and precisely machined knurling are not only nostalgic and beautiful but also provide functionality that improves the feel of manual focusing.
Manual focus for reliable focusing
Employs a very precisely machined and adjusted all metal helicoid unit lubricated with high quality grease to realize smooth focusing operation with just the right amount of torque. This enables very precise focusing.
Choice of barrel design variations
As homage to the interchangeable lenses for single-lens reflex cameras of the Showa 40s period (1965 to 1974), two variations are available: a silver rim variation and a black rim variation (affectionately nicknamed “sakijiro” (white front) and “sakiguro” (black front) respectively by Japanese collectors).
Usable on a range of bodies
The lens mount is interchangeable with Nikon Ai-S with built-in CPU, and in addition to a built-in CPU the lens also has an Ai coupler. This means the lens can be used on a wide range of camera bodies from the old film cameras of yesteryear through to the latest digital single-lens reflex cameras.
